Student Assistance Program

The University of Mississippi Medical Center coordinates opportunities for Students to receive counseling services for school-related, personal, and family matters. Students are a valuable part of this institution and we care about their needs and any issues that arise in their lives. These services can offer help and assistance to students. Dependents are not covered by these services, but counselors are available to help with appropriate referrals.

Is there a cost to use this service?

No. The University of Mississippi Medical Center has purchased the direct counseling you receive. If you are referred to a treatment resource beyond counseling, there may be additional costs.

What services are available?

Just about any concern imaginable can be addressed. They range from simple to complex and fall mainly in the following categories:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship Difficulties
  • Family and Parenting Problems
  • Alcohol, Drug or Other Addictions

What about Confidentiality?

These services are confidential. Information is not released unless you give written permission. The only exceptions are in "Duty to Warn" cases such as child abuse or threats to self or others.

How do I get started?

There are two programs you can choose from. The Samaritan Counseling Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Just call 601-974-6251. Another program is the St. Dominic Counseling Center. They can be contacted between the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday at 601-200-3110. Simply call and identify yourself as a student enrolled at UMMC in need of counseling.
